‘A Man Who Will Be Deeply Missed’: Meg Ryan Shares Emotional Tribute to Director Rob Reiner

Meg Ryan has published a heartfelt tribute to the deceased filmmaker Rob Reiner, under whose direction she worked in the iconic rom-com When Harry Met Sally.

A Tragic Discovery

Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles this past weekend.

“We will miss this man so deeply…” Ryan shared on Instagram, accompanying a photo of them together. “Thank you, Rob and Michelle [sic], for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. Your trust in people's goodness and your love for this nation are remembered.”

Charges Filed

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and made a court appearance today. He’s being held without bail. Sources state that Reiner’s daughter Romy found her father’s body.

“I must hold onto hope that their tale doesn't conclude here, that awareness can be heightened from this,” Ryan added. “Perhaps they would desire a legacy of hope and humanity, leading us toward empathy and tranquility.”

A Statement from Siblings

Reiner’s surviving children Jake and Romy released a message today. “Language fails to capture the daily agony we endure,” they said. “Losing our parents in such a horrific way is a devastation beyond comprehension. They were more than parents; they were our closest confidants.”

Peers Pay Their Respects

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, also paid tribute to Reiner via comments shared yesterday along with names including Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“No one matched his comic instinct, his dedication to rhythmic dialogue, or his elegant sharpening of drama,” the statement said. “He cherished performers and improved scribes. Freedom was his key offering. He listened to ideas and included you in the creative journey. Collaborators felt like a unified team. Being guided by him was an honor, yet just one facet of his impact.”

A Lasting Cinematic Legacy

When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, grossing more than $93 million worldwide and earning Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner was introduced to Michele Singer Reiner while making When Harry Met Sally. The pair were connected through Barry Sonnenfeld, a director and friend.

Reiner’s notable filmography featured classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were together in marriage for 36 years.
