England Coach Southee Unsure on Ashes Participation
Tim Southee's last Test for the Kiwis was versus England in the final month of 2024.
England bowling consultant Southee is still working through the extent of his role will be at the forthcoming Ashes contest in Australia.
The former New Zealand pace bowler is expected to be available for the opening match because of his involvement in the ILT20 tournament, which starts on December 2 in the United Arab Emirates.
Southee, 36, took up a position as the English team's fast bowling consultant in the summer after claiming 391 wickets in 107 Tests for New Zealand.
Commenting as the English squad for the opening of three T20 matches against the Kiwis was announced, he stated of his participation: "We are still evaluating the situation at the moment.
"We'll see the outcome over the next little while."
English pace icon Broad had stated the Australian team as their "worst team since 2010", but the consultant was in little doubt over the anticipated challenge during the contest, which starts on November 21.
"I don't think there's ever a poor Australian cricket team," Southee said.
"The team's attention is firmly on what we're trying to do. In my opinion the quality of [England's] side that's going out to Australia is brilliant.
"It should be an absolute cracker, that series. Not only [are|do] English and Australian people looking forward to it, I believe the entire cricketing community is."
But, prior to the English team head to Perth for the first Ashes match, they take on the Kiwis in Christchurch on this Saturday.
