Israelis have come together throughout the country to commemorate 24 months since the Hamas-led attack on 7 October 2023, as discussions proceeded in the neighboring country over a resolution to the hostilities in Gaza.

The assault saw more than 1,200 people killed and 251 others taken back to Gaza as hostages. It was the most deadliest day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel responded by launching a armed campaign in Gaza which has killed in excess of 67,000 people, as reported by the area's Hamas-controlled health ministry. Its figures are seen as trustworthy by the United Nations and other world agencies.

"The aggressive adversaries have hit us hard, but they have not broken us," the prime minister added on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "realize all the objectives of the war: the release of all the kidnapped, the removal of the Hamas administration and the assurance that Gaza will not pose a risk to Israel".

Memorial Ceremonies Across Israel

The national leadership delayed state memorials until October 16th - after the end of the Jewish High Holiday season - but ceremonies still occurred around the country on that day.

A memorial ceremony for the families of Israelis who died in the Hamas assault was conducted in Tel Aviv. Organized by the families themselves, it was aired throughout Israeli television channels.

Hours earlier, a minute's silence was respected around the country.

Peace Talks in Egypt

At the same time, the conflicting parties' representatives met in the North African tourist destination of the Egyptian city for a continuing round of indirect talks to discuss the terms of the plan.

A prominent representative familiar with the talks indicated that an evening round of mediated discussions started at evening in Egypt.

The representative explained the earlier meeting concluded without significant progress, due to disagreements over the proposed Israeli withdrawal maps from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas demands to ensure Israel does not resume hostilities after the initial stage of the agreement.

He commented that the discussions are "challenging and have not yet deliver any major advancement," but pointed out that facilitators are striving to close the gaps between the two sides.

Key Points in Negotiations

  • An enduring halt to fighting
  • The swap of the captives still detained by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The removal of Israeli forces from Gaza
  • Measures for humanitarian aid deliveries
  • After-conflict administration of the territory

Citizen Feeling

In the city's memorial area previously, young a woman - whose sibling endured the assault on the gathering, where 378 people were killed and dozens more were abducted by Hamas fighters - explained: "No location seems like home now and until each abducted person come back not a single person will have peace of mind."

"After we see all home returned, we can feel relief anew. Then we can start to rebuild," she concluded.

Outside the prime minister's official dwelling in the capital, people congregated to express their solidarity for the loved ones of the abducted. Israel reports forty-eight remain in captivity in Gaza, twenty of whom are believed to be alive.

Activist one woman remarked: "We need do any agreement needed for the captives to be released. But we truly desire promises that we will be secure."

Opinion polls now frequently demonstrate that approximately the majority of Israeli citizens want the war to conclude in as payment for the freedom of the abducted.

Gaza Situation

At the area of the gathering, mourners assembled to honor the dead.

From there, the boom of military attacks and artillery could be detected just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses said the severe Israeli attacks persisted.

In the main city, air and artillery strikes were documented in the early hours of Tuesday in the western Tal al-Hawa, sector and zone districts and in the east side neighbourhood of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the northwestern area.

"Once the evening comes, the dread appears with it," evacuated urban resident Emaan al-Wahidi, whose 17-year-old son was died by an Israeli aerial attack last year, explained.

"We are afraid of the attacks. Throughout the evening we are sleeping together, holding each other, particularly my smallest child who puts his face on me the entire evening."

"Every second we monitor the news to see the situation. And I'm concerned that this truce will not be finalized and that the war will come back to us."

Health Emergency

Al-Shifa hospital in the urban area announced it had taken in the bodies of six people by the midday, including several who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.

Another medical facility in the south region of Khan Younis indicated two more fatalities had been brought there. A person was killed by Israeli troops while looking for assistance to the south region, medics stated.
