LA Explodes in Jubilation as Dodgers Secure Back-to-Back World Series Championship
Los Angeles experienced citywide festivities after the Los Angeles Dodgers won a nail-biting seven-match World Series title. Supporters worldwide joined Angelenos in jubilation, marking the first time in a quarter-century that a franchise has achieved back-to-back championships.
Victory Parade Attracts Massive Turnout
Local events featured a procession through the city center on Monday morning, a ticketed rally at the team's home stadium, and spontaneous parties throughout the city.
Online footage depict thousands of Los Angeles residents flooding downtown streets, many carrying handmade banners and Dodger flags. The squad was seen riding high on a double-decker bus through the masses, raising the Commissioner’s trophy high.
“My focus is already about the next championship we’re going to achieve this,” the star player stated through an interpreter.
The parade route ended at the stadium, where the team emerged to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard spinning music and the artist cruising a light blue classic car around the stadium’s outfield.
Pre-Parade Festivities and Player Reactions
Festivities began prior to the parade, with Dodgers fans lighting fireworks in the roads of Downtown Los Angeles on Sunday night.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, awarded the MVP of the championship, spoke plainly about the win.
“Losing is not an option,” he said. “I adore this team. This city means everything to me.”
Varied Responses and City Unity
However, Mark Walter was met with a cooler reception at the rally. Video footage from the gathering appear to show Walter taking the stage to a combination of applause and boos, with jeers interrupting his speech.
The championship acted as a positive moment in what has been a challenging year for the city. An estimated 225,000 people attended to the Dodgers’ victory parade last year, and according to Dodgers player one athlete, supporters this year showed equal or greater support.
“I feel like it’s nearly twice from last year,” Freeman remarked. “These fans are crazy. It’s so awesome to be a involved in this.”
