Lawmakers Disclose Newest Batch of Epstein Photos as Department of Justice Cut-off Date Approaches
Oversight Panel
The Congressional oversight panel has released a batch of roughly 70 photographs from the estate of former adjudicated sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
This represents the third release from a tranche of in excess of 95,000 photos the body has obtained from Epstein's property. It contains pictures of excerpts from the book Lolita scrawled across a female's body, and censored photos of women's international passports.
This disclosure comes mere hours before the 19 December due date for the DOJ to disclose all files related to its probe into Epstein.
"These new photographs bring up more inquiries about exactly what the Department of Justice has in its possession," said the Democratic lead of the committee, Robert Garcia.
Contents in the Images Released
Several of the photographs released on Thursday show Epstein speaking with professor and activist Noam Chomsky inside a private jet; Bill Gates standing beside a woman whose face is censored; Steve Bannon positioned at a workstation facing Epstein, and ex- Alphabet president Sergey Brin at a evening meal.
Committee
These are the most recent affluent, prominent men to be seen in Epstein property photographs published by the oversight panel - formerly disclosed photos also depict US President Donald Trump and past president Bill Clinton, as well as movie director Woody Allen, ex- US Secretary of the Treasury Larry Summers, lawyer Alan Dershowitz, Andrew Mountbatton-Windsor, and additional individuals.
Appearing in the photos is not evidence of any misconduct, and many of the photographed figures have asserted they were not participating in Epstein's criminal activity.
In a statement issued alongside the image release, Democrats on the US House Oversight Committee stated the Epstein estate's representatives did not offer context or dates for the pictures.
"Photographs were chosen to offer the general populace with openness into a representative sample of the photos acquired from the property, and to provide understanding into Epstein's network and his profoundly troubling activities," the statement says.
Investigative Body
The publication also features several photographs of excerpts from the Vladimir Nabokov book Lolita written in black ink across different parts of a woman's body, such as her upper body, feet, hip, and spine. Lolita narrates the account of a minor who was manipulated by a adult literature professor.
A particular passage from the book inscribed across a female's torso states, "Lolita: the tip of the tongue making a journey of three steps down the roof of the mouth to land, at three, on the teeth".
Additionally, there are a number of photos of female travel documents and ID papers from states globally, like Lithuania, Russia, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine.
Committee
Most of the details on the IDs, such as names and DOBs, is censored but the panel indicated in a press release that the travel documents pertain to "individuals whom Jeffrey Epstein and his associates were engaging".
An additional photograph depicts Epstein sitting at a desk in close proximity in the company of three individuals whose identities have been obscured - one has her palm on Epstein's torso under his shirt, and another individual is crouching to examine a adjacent laptop. Epstein seems to be aiding the third put on a piece of jewelry.
Oversight Panel
A further photo released is a screenshot of SMS messages from an unidentified person who says they have been supplied "several females" and are demanding "$1000 for each individual".
Photograph Release Comes Prior to DOJ Deadline
The committee has a vast number of photos in its custody from the Epstein property, which are "at once disturbing and ordinary," its press release on recently clarified.
The oversight panel first issued a subpoena to the property of Epstein, who passed away in a New York correctional facility in 2019 while awaiting trial on charges of sex trafficking crimes, in August.
The photos and files the Epstein estate's representatives provided to the body are different than what is commonly referred to "Epstein-related records". Those are papers in the justice department's control associated with its independent probe into Epstein.
In accordance with the Transparency Act, which the President made law recently, the DOJ has until the date of 19 December to release its documents. The extent of what's contained in the DOJ's records is not publicly known, and it's probable that a large amount of the material will be heavily censored, comparable to Congressional documents
