New York Jets Head Coach Aaron Glenn Confident Kris Boyd Will Recover Fully After New York City Shooting

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn has stated that he recently spoke with defensive back Kris Boyd and feels certain the player will recover well after being shot in midtown Manhattan in the early hours of Sunday.

Glenn described that Boyd, who is hospitalized, was “positive” during their recent conversation.

“That’s what eases my mind, is that he’s feeling positive,” Glenn stated on Wednesday. “His wife and child, they’re in good spirits and he will walk away from this just fine.”

Glenn was unsure when Boyd could be discharged the hospital, where he has been listed as serious yet stable.

“Not certain at the moment,” he added. “However, I can share, from our conversation, he felt really upbeat. Furthermore, that reassures me, because of his outlook and he’s talking that way.”

NYPD shared security footage earlier this week of an individual wanted in the attack on the player. The reason behind the incident remains under investigation and police mentioned it remains uncertain if Boyd was targeted. No other injuries as confirmed by officials.

The attack took place around 2 a.m. on Sunday morning near MSG and Times Square. Boyd, twenty-nine, was taken to Bellevue Hospital after suffering a wound to the stomach, police said. The assailant escaped.

Glenn shared Boyd has occupied his thinking “a ton” since he heard about the shooting. Glenn added that Boyd and his spouse recently welcomed a baby.

“What immediately crossed my mind, he has a new baby,” Glenn said. “My mind went to his family, worrying about his newborn and I hope he recovers fully. Those thoughts dominated my thinking.
“There’s a process to this, I’ll keep private, but I am pleased that he’s going to come out of this thing really, really well.”

Boyd was inactive this season, after joining the team, after being placed on injured reserve on mid-August with a shoulder injury that involved surgical repair.

He signed with New York as a free agent in March and was expected to be an important component of the team’s updated special teams under Glenn and special teams coordinator the special teams coach. However, he got hurt during preseason drills on August 2 and was taken away on a cart.

Boyd has remained around the team during the entire campaign while recovering from the shoulder injury.

“He’s been a part of what we’re doing,” Glenn said. “In fact, he is a regular at our matches. He is completely involved. To be one of the top special teams players in this league, he’s done a really good job of helping the other guys we have.”

Boyd, from Texas, began his career with Minnesota after being a seventh-round pick by Minnesota out of the University of Texas in 2019. He joined the Arizona Cardinals in last year and then joined Houston’s practice squad after that. Boyd signed a one-year contract for $1.6 million with the Jets in March.
