Nigel Farage Accuses Teachers of ‘Indoctrinating Children’ on Race Issues

Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike within weeks a Reform UK election victory, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by telling children that African-Caribbean youth are oppressed and Caucasian students are perpetrators.

During an event for a private US Christian college, the politician expressed his perspective on the UK education system, stating that the “radical left-wing” had “taken over schooling”.

“I expect a walkout by educators soon after securing a victory,” Farage commented during a Q&A session.

“They are poisoning our kids. They instruct children to be ashamed of their country. They are telling an eight-year-old black child that he is oppressed and a white child of the same age that he is an oppressor. They are dividing us, instead of fostering unity. They promote this harmful mindset.”

Reacting to Farage’s claims, the head of a major education union rejected the notion that the education system was controlled by Marxists as “absurd”. Kebede noted that any strikes must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and questioned whether the party would target these right after taking office.

“The politician has crafted his political career on coded rhetoric and now, similar to other figures, he is lining up teachers and their organizations for a fight,” Kebede stated.

“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. I don’t – and nor does my union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … If he were to lead the government he would undermine state services, including education … and the outcome would be catastrophic for students and learning.”

Reform, which tops surveys by a significant margin, has provided limited specifics on its educational plans and seems not to have designated an education lead.

Nonetheless, Farage’s remarks indicated the party would overhaul the system and the curriculum. Farage declared: “We face an enormous task with schooling – truly monumental. Moreover, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, years to turn this around.”

He stated that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but older youth were “completely lost”.

Honoring a conservative activist, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to foster independent thought – to educate individuals that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves as opposed to what’s happening now where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”

The party has conflicted with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “extremist and prejudiced” and described the leader as “a poundshop Donald Trump”.

The politician has charged Kebede of being “an avowed radical” … an individual intent that young minds be corrupted at school, their minds should be poisoned about everything to do with this country” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.

Almost one million people work in schools in the UK, about half of whom are teachers and the remainder being assistants and administrative personnel. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.

National strikes over teacher pay and conditions in 2023 led to significant interruptions in educational institutions and millions of days of lost learning for children.

At the US event, Farage also vowed to promote the digital courses of the Christian college in the UK. He said organizations like it were “part of the fightback”, noting: “I am serious. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of youth to these educational programs. I pledge this tonight and I will follow through.”

The college, a religious educational establishment, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to perpetuate the blessings of freedom. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for no charge to every interested learner.”
