Pat Bamford Joins the Blades After Initiating Abusive Chants Targeting Coach Chris Wilder
Patrick Bamford has signed with Sheffield United only seven months following starting derogatory songs aimed at the team's coach, Chris Wilder.
The 32-year-old forward, a free agent since leaving Leeds, has signed a deal joining the Championship club in difficulty through the winter. His seven-year career with Leeds finished amicably in August.
One of the player's last memorable actions while at Leeds included starting offensive songs regarding Chris Wilder during the club’s promotion party this spring. Now, the former England international is set to play for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss seeks to lift his beloved club out of the relegation zone.
Past Conflict Involving the Striker & the Manager
The pair had a past prior to Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United lost the promotion decider by Sunderland. Wilder described the forward as a "muppet" back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and the Blades secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds fell short in the promotion playoffs.
Reconciliation & Looking Ahead
All seems has been resolved with United, the league's lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement in attack while Bamford aiming to rejuvenate his playing days.
The song about Wilder went viral this spring. An apologetic Bamford and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, called Wilder the next day.
Wilder commented back then: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I have no issue at all with it. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.
“We spent a short while and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke as well and we had a longer discussion with him and he's a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and take it and that is part and parcel of football across all levels, including a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Pat.”
Recent Career Challenges
Bamford featured in 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC and Boro striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
