Slot Insists He Is Secure and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Loss
The Liverpool head coach acknowledged that it's understandable for concerns to be raised about his future after a further heavy loss against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the team's worst run since being demoted in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Dutch league title holders on a punishing evening at their home ground.
“I'm confident, I'm fine, I have got significant backing from management,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to change things and earn three points obviously but when you're working as a coach and underperforming then it is normal that doubts arise.”
He added, “I am OK with my position. It is not the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and to me and we discuss these matters but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they trust me.”
He added, “During our regular conversations we have I feel the trust. But I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Recurring Failings and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted familiar shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the team's situation.
“I haven't got the answers. Truthfully, I don’t. I'm telling that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry inside. I’m at the point now where I just don’t have the phrases.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I support them, and I've watched this club for years.”
“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Reds side enduring a period of this nature with performances this poor.”
Jones concluded, “However we still have the emblem on our chest. And until it is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side return to where it needs to be, show everyone once more the values of this club and the reason it's called the top club in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
