That Gruesome Cartoon Movie Conclusion That Lingers Audiences
Out of all the adult-oriented animated films I’ve ever watched, nothing has remained with me quite like the dread-soaked conclusion of a graphically gory as well as deeply subversive film from 2022 The Unicorn Wars.
Back in the year 2015, this Spain-based writer-director crafted a grim, bleak and often savage world that included a few small , forlorn hints of optimism.
Although The Unicorn Wars appears as it originated from a desire to expand the medium further, the filmmaker stated that it was more a try to communicate a global, multicultural message regarding “the shared root of every conflict.”
That idea is communicated through a squad of colorful pastel bears , clearly modeled after a popular line of lovable characters.
Growing up in a society focused on militarism and the military-industrial complex, numerous these animals are fixated on exterminating the mythical beasts, due to a religious scripture which states them they were once kings of the woods, until these creatures forced them out.
Some did not entirely accepted the propaganda, , choose to sample narcotics and engage sexually in the woods.
Unlike their gentle counterparts, these bright beings have visible sexual organs and obvious sex drives.
For a particular particularly cruel, skeptical animal, the bear named Bluey, the war against unicorns turns into a road to power — and especially to authority above his softer, nicer brother the bear Tubby.
This bear behaves aggressively , an obvious psychopath , and while terror dominates his unit and kills his teammates individually, he grabs progressively influence for himself, via progressively violent, damaging approaches.
Simultaneously, the horned creatures are suffering their own terror, as a growing, deadly beast in their habitat.
“At the beginning, it feels like a comedy,” the filmmaker stated. “But then it becomes a more serious and sad film. And in the finale, it’s a scary feature.”
Unicorn Wars starts out similar to one of the most quirky movies from an iconic animator, that discover a naughty glee in letting animated figures curse, fire weapons, or engage sexually.
Afterward it evolves into something more like a bleaker film by that same artist, with increasingly visual gore and a noticeable link to the real tragedy of battle.
Ultimately, it becomes an outright theatrical horror carnage.
The terror that makes this a perfect Halloween viewing kicks in much sooner than indicated.
Unicorn Wars is suited for the devoted fans of gore, for fans of graphic films who desire to see a movie they have not watched previously, and are able to withstand a plot that pulls unflinching brutality.
See it in a dark room with no disturbances, and that ending will burrow deep within you and linger.
