The Blue Jays Earn World Series Showdown With the Dodgers
Springer previously helped the Astros securing the championship in 2017.
Toronto's Blue Jays advanced to their first championship series following 1993 by beating the Seattle Mariners in the final Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Behind by two runs, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh inning, propelling the sole Canadian team in the majors to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, the team that is the defending champions, in the anticipated championship.
"I'm thrilled for everyone here, Toronto, the nation," said Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 World Series. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
The veteran has now slugged twenty-three post-season home runs, ranking him third in history trailing only Manny Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"There's probably not another person on planet Earth that I want up in that spot besides George Springer with his playoff prowess," remarked manager John Schneider.
Seattle, after leading the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the sole team never to appear in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson said "without a doubt that it's going to sting" in the wake of his team's loss at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their efforts throughout the year.
"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we had to come out on the losing end of this game," he continued.
Toronto's team won the championship on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in the opener on Friday.
