The English Team to Start Euro 2028 Journey at City’s Home Ground

England’s men’s team will initiate their UEFA Euro 2028 campaign at the Manchester City’s stadium, on the condition that they achieve the anticipated passage for a tournament hosted across most of the United Kingdom and the Ireland.

The Etihad Stadium has not staged an England men’s fixture since May 2016, when the Turkish team were defeated 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is highly likely to host the national team for their opening fixture on June 10, 2028.

The team are planned to play their final two group matches at Wembley, but, in the event of winning Group B, their last-16 tie would take place at Newcastle’s St James’ Park. Finishing second would mean commencing the playoffs at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Championship Launch and Demonstration

The event was inaugurated at an event in Piccadilly Circus on Wednesday night. Senior figures from the tournament organizers and the organizing bodies were confronted as they arrived the site by approximately 50 pro-Palestine demonstrators, who demanded the Israeli team to be kicked out from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.

Signs were displayed with phrases saying “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while protesters called out: “Kick Israel out.”

Tournament Timeline

The opening game of the tournament will be played at the the national stadium of Wales in the Welsh capital, on a Friday in June 2028, a game that will involve the Welsh team if they qualify.

Wembley Stadium will host both semi-finals and the title decider, which will be held on Sunday 9 July with a commencement at 5pm.

It is hoped that an afternoon start, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will attract families and help engage a wider spectrum of viewers.

Qualifying Teams

The Ireland are set to play their initial fixture at the Dublin Arena and Scotland would do the same at Hampden Park.

All four host countries’ teams will enter the qualification process; two guaranteed slots will be set aside for any that do not reach the tournament through that route.

Venues and Knockout Stage

Villa Park and Spurs’ ground round out the event’s nine venues. Each one will hold at least one knockout match, with the quarter-finals played at each country’s national stadium.

The draw for the qualifiers will be held in Belfast, which was excluded as a tournament location last year when it was revealed the Belfast stadium could not be renovated in time, on 6 December 2026.

Official Statement

“It will be a tournament for the followers and a showcase of everything we value about the game – its emotion and capacity to unite individuals.”

More than three million admissions, a all-time high for a Euro tournament, are anticipated to be released to attendees.
