The network's Top New Show of 2025 Secures a Significant Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.
During the fall season, Adult Swim saw the return of its offbeat hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network launched a completely new animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns was sweet and soothing, evoking a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often marked by dark humor, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit.
A Major Commitment
In mid-December, Adult Swim made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for a further two seasons. This provides showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to further explore the story of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their widowed father, with Cappa voicing for all four central characters.
"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "I am overjoyed that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for seasons to come."
A President's Endorsement
The official statement also included commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and oddly captivating." He shouted out the fans who found the show and advocated for its uniquely offbeat sensibility.
"All of you supported this new show, rooted for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Comforting Counterpoint
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about following this endearing family navigate their simple existence.
In earlier interviews, creator Joe Cappa expressed his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing sarcastic tone. He traced this trend to various cultural shifts.
“We're stuck in a cycle of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” noted Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
Future Seasons
Now, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well help usher in that comedic shift. At a minimum, the renewal guarantees audiences additional episodes to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
