Two Victims Named in Brown University Shooting as Police Continue Manhunt for Perpetrator.
The pair of scholars who lost their lives in the recent violent attack at Brown University had tributes paid to them on Monday – while an intensive search for their killer persisted following the discharge by Rhode Island officials of the single suspect detained in connection in the case.
Honoring a Lost Student
Ella Cook, a sophomore from Alabama, was remembered as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, according to the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.
Her role included vice-president of Brown’s division of College Republicans of America, as the club stated. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also posted condolences publicly, saying in part: “It's indescribable. Thinking of her kin and peers, especially her parents.”
An International Student
The second fatality was MukhammadAziz Umurzokov from Uzbekistan, from Uzbekistan in his initial year at the renowned school, according to relatives.
Umurzokov’s identity was verified by Uzbekistan’s foreign ministry.
“He possessed remarkable kindness, humor, and intelligence. He harbored grand aspirations of pursuing a career in neurosurgery and helping people,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a online post.
What Happened
Nine more persons were injured in the weekend shooting in the engineering building of Brown’s university in Providence, during the institution's end-of-term tests.
Officials stated late Sunday that a man aged 24 taken into custody in a search at a lodging about approximately 17 miles from the university earlier in the day was being released.
“A perpetrator remains free,” stated the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.
He added, “Sometimes you head in one direction, and then you must reassess and head another way, and this is precisely what occurred over the last 24 hours or so.”
Public Fear
Brett Smiley, Brett Smiley, acknowledged: “It is expected to provoke new worry for our community”.
The assailant opened fire inside a lecture hall in the building on Saturday afternoon, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a 9mm handgun, a police source told the Associated Press.
Officers that entered the inn seized two firearms and magazines when the suspect was taken into custody, as was reported.
The Wounded Victims
Regarding the nine injured, a single scholar was allowed to go home, mentioned the university president, Christina Paxson. An additional seven were in critical but stable condition, and another was critically ill, authorities stated on Sunday.
